Content originators can benefit from the bandwidth and operational cost advantages of DVB-S2 and MPEG-4 AVC while still being able to maintain a cost-effective interface into legacy MPEG-2 systems by using Ericsson's RX8252 Program Transcoder. Programmers and broadcasters constantly seek to take advantage of technological advances to reduce their distribution costs. Combined with the DVB-S2 satellite transmission, the MPEG-4 AVC compression is ideal for achieving transmission efficiency gains.

Many TV systems are locked into MPEG-2 technology for the foreseeable future due to the deployed set-top box population. High density MPEG-4 AVC to MPEG-2 transcoding in conjunction with better video quality is offered by the Ericsson RX8252 Program Transcoder. This enables the programmer to maintain compatibility with down-stream legacy MPEG-2 equipment while distributing using MPEG-4 compression. The interconnected 2-wire transmitters are supplied with energy and analog 0/4 to 20 mA measured values that are transmitted from the potentially explosive area to the non-explosive area.

Digital (HART) communication signals can be overlapped over the analog measured value on the explosive or non-explosive side and transmitted bidirectionally. In order to enhance the HART impedance with less protected systems you can attach an extra resistor to the output circuit using a DIP switch on the exterior of the case.
