The pepperl-fuchs through-beam sensors are applicable in monitoring of production and packing, protecting dangerous areas for automatic doors, and product fill measurements through transparent containers. The sensors are also ideal to foggy, dusty, and dirty ambiance The through-beam sensors use photoelectric sensing as the transmitter and emitter are in distinct casings. The beam of light produced by the transmitter is positioned to the receiver and as an object cut off the beam of light of the emitter to the receiver, the output of the receiver changes state. With this feature, through-beam sensing is effective at optimum sensing ranges and has peak excess gain.

The Pepperl + Fuchs' SLA through-beam Photoelectric sensor series is part of the category two or four self-evaluating photoelectric safety tools (as per EN 954-1 & EN 61496). It is imperative that the SLA series be used with SC4-8 or SLVA safety amplifiers. One amplifier can contain around eight through-beam detectors. The SLA series, together with the appropriate amplifier create a protective system (modular) with an operating range extending to 65 m. Users can pick additional safety tools (emergency stops) and muting sensors. Different through-beam sensors can be connected to the amplifier as long as they contain the same type of receiver and transmitter. The safety sensors for the amplifiers also have their own power supply. Transmitter control and signal analysis from the receiver also take place through the amplifier. Multilateral safeguarding is also possible through installed deflecting mirrors.
