The sensor is often exposed to abrasion, target impact and the effects of aggressive fluids and solvents bu applications such as metal processing or machine tools.

Designed by Pepperl+Fuchs, the sensors enclosed in stainless steel can have an extended service life and reduced down time for these applications, making them much more cost-effective.

Two versions of the 'Metal Face' product series (NMB...) are available. The (FE) version is used to detect ferrous metals and the (NFE) version is used to detect non-ferrous metals.

Slotted proximity sensors comprise of a two coil system sensing across the slot opening. Upon insertion of a metal piece into the slot sensor, the inductive coupling between coils reduces, based on the depth of the target metal. Once this coupling falls below the mark, the proximity switch gets activated.

Owing to the nature of the sensor design, such sort of proximity switch is unaffacted by the metal characteristics and are less sensitive to target position changes in the direction of the core axis.

Pepperl+Fuchs' IP69k proximity switch was designed with new sensor features to adjust according to the environmental condition, it results to reduce the effects of high pressure environments and ensures a problem-free use in certain applications. The possible causes of failure were minimized and the standard sensors are now assured to withstand lifelong operations. It includes a tighter construction fit of mechanical parts such as plastic caps and sensor housing, plasma cleaning of all surfaces to which sealant is applied and the pre-sealing of the coil system. This allows for characteristics to hit the above test requirements for IP67/ IP68 ratings.

Pepperl + Fuchs proximity switches are standardized based on the NAMUR product type. It offers a safe off button function detected by either a control interface or common power line during a sensor malfunction. Also, the sensors used are identified by S1N or SN with a unique protection feature that can be certified only in connection with the proper or preferred CUI.
