The Windows Operating System is utilized with an onboard PC, which has a touchscreen interface. Excitation conditions are optimized with a source filter. Additional features include a 30kV X-ray tube for direct excitation, one-button analysis, and a proportional counter detector. The SLFA-2100 and 2800 are energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometers developed by HORIBA Scientific. They are made to measure low sulfur fuels and RFG. They use an X-ray fluorescence system to measure accurately in a high speed manner. The spectrometers operate while following ASTM D4294 method for laboratory and field applications. Furthermore, they detect with a limitation of 5ppm in the sensitive measurement of sulfur.

These analyzers are sensitive enough to measure petroleum fuel samples with extremely low and high sulfur concentrations such as gasoline and heavy fuel oils. A large and highly visible LCD screen, function keys, and alphanumeric keypads are equipped with the device for easy operation.

Horiba's MESA-7220 is an x-ray fluorescence that employs sulfur and chlorine. Accuracy and precision within short measurement times is ensured through a high count rate processing capability. The typical test time is at 3 min per sample for less than 50 ppm concentration. However, it only takes less than 2 minutes to process a sample with a concentration above 50 ppm.

The instrument can also simultaneously detect limits for S and Cl in low ppm, with the upper range in the % level. Varied results are avoided through a new technology which eliminates oxygen interference. Routine operation functions can be viewed through the instrument's touchscreen graphical user interface. A mouse and a keyboard can also be plugged into the device through a USB port installed into the instrument.
