Radial ball joint

SKF Radial spherical plain bearings comprise inner and outer rings sliding contact surfaces and are lubricated via the inner and outer ring. They can support radial forces, transmit motion and loads with low moment levels and thus keep bending stresses away from the adjacent structure. The bearings are particularly suitable for alternating loads with impact and shock type stresses and support low axial loads in both directions. Sealed spherical plain bearings are protected against contamination and water spray by lip seals. The radial spherical plain bearings requiring maintenance (steel-on-steel) have hardened sliding contact surface on both rings. They have both wear and corrosion resistant characteristics. Bearings with this sliding contact surface combination require regular relubrication. The high strength of the sliding contact surfaces make these bearings especially suitable for bearing arrangements where heavy loads of alternating direction, shock loads or heavy static loads have to be accommodated.

Angular-contact spherical plain bearing

Angular contact spherical plain bearings are specially designed with sphered sliding surfaces on the inner side while arranging the outer ring at an angle to the bearing axis. The bearing proves particularly suitable for carrying combined (radial and axial) loads. A single angular contact spherical plain bearing is designed to carry bearing loads that are acting in one direction. When under radial loads, the bearing produces force acting in the axial direction which is to be opposed by equal force acting in the opposite direction due to which the bearings are usually adjusted against a second bearing.

The arrangement of a pair of contact spherical plain bearings with coinciding of the spheres centres, produces a spherical plain bearing capable of accommodating heavy radial loads and heavy axial loads in both directions. Sliding contact surface combination steel/PTFE composite is the standard method of producing SKF angular contact spherical plain bearings

Swivel plain bearing

The most important feature of these radial spherical plain bearings is the inner ring, which comes with spherical convex outside diameter, as well as an outer ring and a concave inside surface. The design of these items allows for their suitability for tasks that require bearing arrangement in situations where the alignment movements between housings and the shaft have to be supported.

The radial spherical plain bearings of SDK include a contact surface combination of steel-on-steel. In addition to this, the wear resistance of this model is high, while the bearings with cylindrical extensions are located at both sides of the inner ring.

Swivel plain bearing / self-lubricated

The Maintenance-free radial spherical plain bearings is considered to be under maintenance-free which have an inner ring with an orbital convex outside diameter and an outer ring with an appropriately orbital but concave inner surface. The development makes them singularly suitable for bearing preparations where alignment movements between shaft and housing have to be considered, or where fluctuating or intermittent tilting or slewing movements must be granted at relatively slow sliding speeds.

Additionally, they are made with three different sliding contact surface combinations and as it depends on bearing dimensions and series, they are available in several multiple designs. Included with the bearings of carbon chromium steel, the stainless steel bearings resistant to corrosion in oxidizing environments are also available.

Self-lubricated plain bearing / composite / filament-wound

The Composite dry sliding bushings by SKF are used for radially loaded bearing arrangements that requires a radial space which allows oscillating or rotational movement. They have two available designs which has different sliding layer composition: Composite E and Composite M bushings, the details are described under Composite dry sliding bearing materials. These bushings have a copper-plated sheet steel backing and can be applied for all applications where maintenance aren't required and where lack of lubricant can happen.
