SAF pillow (plummer) blocks are the SKF standard housings for inch shafts. It is hardly ever necessary to resort to tailored housings for specific applications due to their versatility. All parts are available separately but they are usually supplied in kits which are supplied with an adapter sleeve and a bearing. The housings are horizontally split and, depending on the housing size, have either two or four bolt holes in the base.
Two designs of SAF housings are available. The SNL series features housing sizes from 507 to 528 and 211 to 228 which use a new casting design similar to SKF housings. The previous casting design is used to manufacture other sizes.
