Float switches are designed for simple limit value detection in liquids. These tools float on the liquid surface due to the higher density of the liquid. It is equipped with a cable fastener which secures the float switch at a level that is ideal for its specific implementation. The float switch has a float body with a built-in switching element and connection cable. The swaying motions of the sensor servers as a trigger for the switching process. There are several mercury-free switching elements available including small operation balls with inductive position detection, initiators as well as micro-switches with operation ball.

Pepperl+Fuchs magnet-operated immersion probes are suitable for clean liquids, for example solvents or oils. Factors such as pressure, density, temperature or the liquid's electrical properties have no effect on the measurement.

A probe tube directs the float, which starts floating on the surface. The reed contacts, which are fitted in the guide pipe, are activated by a ring magnet, integrated in the float, through its magnetic field. When the float is in a proper position, the contacts are switched. They are available in different types of contact switch designs such as normally closed, normally open or change-over.

Magnetic float level switch - LMC series

This equipment works under the measuring principle where it floats over a vertically guided tube and a permanent magnet that remains fixed in the float switches, consequently the reed contacts resistor chain and acts as a voltage divider, providing voltage values that correspond to the medium level. The resolution of this equipment relies on the number of contacts used with measurement depending on the electronic properties of the material to be filled. Other associated factors are pressure, density and temperature.

The mode of operation are guided through the permanent magnet that remains located in the float actuated reed switches (in the guide tube). These switches get themselves switched within the range of resistors on actuating, consequently altering the overall resistance to a significant level. There are electrical outputs also available along with 3-wire potentiometer circuit, 4 mA…20 mA and 2-wire PLM signals.
