Spices, Herbs, Seeds, and other Organic Materials. The H.T.S.T. process exposes contaminated material to saturated steam for a very short time, then dries and cools the product. While the idea is simple, the practicality of making a continuous system that can treat powders next to whole spices is unique and makes Ventilex system applicable for a large range of products.
The process can be described easily: Product is fed through a high-pressure rotary valve that isolates an autoclave from the ambient room. Inside the Autoclave, a shaking table transports the product being processed to a chamber that is pressurized with steam. Condensation occurs on the product surface, the controlled heat creates the needed amount of steam, thus killing any unwanted pathogen or bacteria. (This system also creates the efficient, cost effective transfer and reuse of energy.) The product is discharged through a second rotary valve, and into a Fluid Bed Dryer where the condensed moisture is driven off, and the product is returned to the original moisture level, or dried to the desired moisture level.

The key to both the effectiveness and the affordability of the Ventilex Continuous Pasteurizer is in the distribution of super-heated saturated steam. We have designed a special distribution plate that fluidizes the product to be pasteurized, allowing all product surfaces to be treated equally. Steam then condenses on the surface of the product, and the condensation energy transfer kills unwanted pathogen or bacteria.

The Continuous Pasteurization System recognizes that treatment times, temperatures, and pressures are critical in treating products. The times, temperatures, and pressures can be set for each product and each pathogen to be destroyed. Ventilex understands that repeatability is required in order to validate a system, ensuring effective pasteurization and our systems are designed to provide that repeatability. Our Steam Pasteurization kills specific pathogens without altering the taste or texture of the product, or the ability for the living nut to germinate, thus allowing organic food labels to be applied.

Any of the 2 nuts that touch each other will have contact points. It is at these locations that the steam will condense, thus the pathogen still can exist inside of the packaged almonds. The times for treatment is critical for a 5 log or above reduction of pathogen. The VENTILEX determined that when you steam treat your nuts past a specified time, the natural aspect of the nuts are altered. This never can takes place with our combines system and it will kill the germs that are trying to reproduce.
