M23 Hybrid: the modular Industrial ethernet solution

The new Hummel AG M23 hybrid is the compact all-in-one solution for the transmission of power, industrial ethernet (IE) and signals. The new line of connectors combines the data transmission according to CAT.5e with a high power processing (up to 28 A and 630 V). Data transfer of up to 500 Mbits/s are no problem due to the separate shielding potentials.

The new M23 hybrid connector is designed for the automation industry. There, manifold new applications will emerge, because the era of Industry 4.0 is marked by increased networking, intelligent controllers and communication between machine and product. Space-saving, lower storage costs and lower maintenance costs lead to more and more single cable solutions with hybrid connectors. Where today two and sometimes even three connectors are installed there will be, in future, just one hybrid connector.

During the development of the new hybrid connector line Hummel focussed on manufacturing quality. Thus the highest requirements for robustness and industrial suitability could be fulfilled.The M23 hybrid is vibration resistant and guaranteed leak-proof at IP67 / IP69K. Besides the standard materials, die cast and brass, the new connectors are also available in stainless steel (AISI 316L).

Twintus Flanges from Hummel are the new low-cost miniature pluggable solutions in drive technology. They are connectors for small drives designed for superior functionality and efficiency even in the smallest servo motors. The specifically created compact design dimensions of 21mm height and 41mm width, and a 20mm resp. 25mm mounting flange, offer high power density. To achieve better performance and signal transmission, the 3-18 inch inserts from the M16 plug connector series can be combined in a modular design principle. In addition to the two plug-in connections from M16, the latest available Twintus combination is the power of the M16 + M12 connectors, where the M16 connector works on the power transfer and the 8-pin M12 connector is used as a signal connector. Customized solutions include color coding, such as the Desina color code.

The protection standards available for these devices are IP 67/IP 69 K, while EN 60 529 is another standard the item is compatible with. In addition to the operating temperatures between -40 and 125 degrees Celsius, the mating cycles of over 1,000 and suitability for cables between 2 and 11mm are important. The manufacturer has used aluminum alloy for the housing, but also provides various housing surfaces on request.

The PBT fire protection class V-0 and copper-zinc alloy used as the contact are important aspects. Finally, the solder is a dip-solder PCB, while the o-rings are compliant with Buna-N standards.
