In addition to this, the chargers also provide full rated output and both voltage regulation and current limiting are controlled through the use of solid state integrated circuity, ensuring optimum performance in the most compact design.

The BCH 2K5-120NP-EQ rugged, industrial quality battery charger delivers up to 2500W continuous output power. It accepts an input voltage of 190V to 264Vac; in float-mode, it provides 135Vdc/16A for charging a 120V (60 cell) battery. Other input/output values available on request.

This charger has a manually initiated equalize cycle. Activated by a push-button “EQ/ON”, the equalize function elevates the output voltage to 141Vdc for the battery. The equalize time is controlled by a built-in timer, adjustable in the 1-9 hour range. This mode can be manually de-activated at any time.

The BCH 2K5-120NP-EQ is rated for heavy-duty applications: -40oC to +70oC temperature for full specification. Cooling is by convection via louvers on the cabinet. The absence of fans, low component count and the use of components with established reliability result in a high MTBF. The robust chassis was designed for wall-mounted application.

This charger is constructed with internal modules, connected in parallel, which also provide inherent redundancy: the failure of one module would only cause a minor loss in output power. Protection for this charger includes input inrush current limiting, over-voltage protection, short circuit protection & a self-resetting thermostat for thermal protection. Optional Charger Fail Alarm (Form C) indicates loss of AC input power.

The BCP 150 has a low battery disconnect circuit to prevent damage to the battery by low discharge during prolonged AC failure. The battery input is also protected against accidental reverse battery connection by a crossbar diode and internal safety fuse. It has an AC/Charger Fail Alarm to indicate either failure of the charger circuit or loss of AC input power. A charger ‘ON’ LED indicator is located beside the terminal block.

Cooling is via baseplate to a heatsinking surface and by natural convection, and the unit is rated for operation over a 0 oC to +50oC cold plate temperature for full specification. An extended temperature range is available on request.

The charger is ruggedized to meet IEC61373 Cat 1 A&B requirements as a minimum, with heavy ruggedizing and conformal coating available for operation in extreme environments. It is fully protected and meets EN 60950-1 and related standards. Low component count, large design headroom, and the use of components with established reliability result in a high MTBF.

Battery voltage and temperature are monitored during the charge cycle. The battery temperature is monitored by an external sensor, which is connected to the charger via a 2-pole circular connector. The charging process is terminated when either the battery voltage reaches 13.5V or the battery temperature exceeds a predetermined temperature, at which point the charger disconnects from the battery via the contacts. For safety reasons, the circuit will not re-initiate automatically, even in case of input power re-cycling it must be initiated manually. Disconnect values can be made customer-specific.

A breaker and an internal crowbar diode on the charger output protect against reverse connection of the battery to the charger. Full electronic protection minimizes the possibility of failure due to abnormal operating conditions. The BCP 130-PEL complies with EN/UL60950-1 and equivalent industrial safety standards as well as the EN61000-3-2 directive for low input harmonic distortion. The unit is filtered to meet EN55022 Class A EMI standards with margins.

All printed circuits are conformal coated and heavily ruggedized for immunity to shock, vibration and moisture.

Custom options, versions with higher output power and versions for different battery chemistries and voltages, are also available.
