Extensometer - 8 - 50 % | LS Series

The LS series is used in measuring strain and deflection. The series has a precise measurement which gives a valuable testing information. The strain is measured as the change in length of a specimen is divided by its original length.

The series consist of different types of extensometers. It includes extensometers for elongations, for high temperature, for high elongation, deflectometers and compressometers, strain gage extensometers, and video extensometers.

Video extensometer

Tinius Olsen video extensometer is designed for the exact, non-contact measurement of specimen strain and comes with various configurations. This is a single camera configuration that uses a particular lens that is ideal for gauging low strain values with very high precision. Its specifications include a greater resolution of better than 1/100,000 of lens FOV, a high system accuracy of 0.5%, and an automatic gauge search and find.

It has the ability to use both longitudinal and transverse multiple gauge lengths. A cool lighting source is included so that strain point tracking is not lost due to changes in ambient conditions. Preparation of the test specimen is quick and easy. Any visible marking can be used for pattern recognition, and these can be natural patterning on the specimen surface, pen marks, blob markers, punched gauge marks or a sprayed speckle pattern.

Mixed-flow extensometer - 20, 50 % | SG Series

The Strain Gage (SG) series is a line of extensometers manufactured by Tinius Olsen. The device is suitable for use in measuring longitudinal or transverse strain. It can also be utilized in combination to determine ‘r’-value and Poisson's ratio.

The extensometer operates with strain gage resistance changes to determine the travel of knife edges on the sample.

Long-stroke extensometer - 28.35 in | 100R

The Model 100R, manufactured by Tinius Olsen, is a high-elongation extensometer that is made to measure the stretch of a broad range of materials. Alteration of the initial measuring length and gauge length is possible to fit the size of the specimen or the test standard that is being applied.

The unit has a unique layout guaranteeing the low tracking force to test sensitive materials combined with robustness to resist the high release forces and breaking energies with certain specimens. The layout also integrates a simple procedure that permits fast testing throughput.

Extension is measured by attaching two counterbalanced extensometer clamps to the specimen at a pre-selected gauge length. The small changes in gauge length are measured by an optical encoder in case the tensile forces are applied to the specimen by the testing unit.

Long-stroke extensometer - 100S

The dual purpose extensometer Tinius Olsen 100 S measures E modulus and offset yield stress on high modulus materials. It also measures elongations up to the break point. It is used to test polycarbonates, where the E modulus has to be measured only using a high resolution system. A secondary system is what is needed to measure elongation to the break point that can be as high as a 200% strain. The 100 S extensometer suits polyurethane, polyethylene, glass reinforced plastics and aluminum alloys. A low tracking force is what is needed to test sensitive materials and a robust construction is needed to withstand the release force that comes out when the specimen breaks. And both these features are what the model 100 S offers.

Video extensometer - videoXtens

The videoXtens are extensometers that give non-contract measurement of tensile and compression deformations on various types of metals, rubbers, plastics and films together with composites. It has flexible illumination system (incident light / backlight) that can be ideally adjusted to suit the testing situation. Furthermore, it has a pattern recognition that enables the preparation-free testing of specimens with structured surfaces. Alternative preparation of specimens with homogeneous, non-structured surfaces using pattern spray. The unit's automatic Gauge mark recognition and recording of initial Gauge length is within the unit.

Laser extensometer - laserXtens

The Laserxtens series is manufactured by Zwick, and is an extensometer that delivers high precision in the micro and macro measurement ranges. It has a measuring principle that reduces the need to apply gage marks.

The unit can be equipped at wide variety of distances from the specimen, which is the key advantage to be used in temperature chambers. It can also measure strain on specimens in gage lengths from 1.5 mm with high accuracy. It has a resolution of 0.15 μm and can be utilized for simultaneous measurement of axial strain and torsion.

Extensometer - lightXtens

The lightXtens extensometer is manufactured having the capability of providing safe, reliable and accurate type of measurements during tensile tests on high-extension, highly-elastic and contact-sensitive kind of materials. Due to its robust design and ease of operation, it is considered as an ideal alternative to a video or laser-based extensometers.

LightXtens satisfies the requirements of Accuracy Class 1 to ISO 9513 from 3 mm. It is suitable for use in an extended temperature range when used together with a conjunction that has temperature chambers. It also has the ability to elevate room temperature without requiring an advanced kind of setting-up operations. The gage length is determined automatically during the test. From there, it is now delievered to testXpert II.
