Heidenhain's TS 440/TS 444 model of a 3-D tactile trigger probe offers pinpoint measuring accuracy. The TS series in general features a trigger stylus, which deflects upon component surface connection. This then signals the trigger to broadcast the measured calibrations via infrared light signals (some models include TS 4xx, TS 6xx, and TS 7xx), or by means of cable (models include TS 220, as well as TS 230). The TS 440/TS 444 is part of the former, with infrared light signal-transmitting capabilities.

Upon contact with a workpiece surface, the stylus of a TS three-dimensional touch trigger probe is deflected upon contact. A trigger signal is released in the TS which is then transmitted to the control. This occurs either as an infrared light signal (TS 7xx, TS 6xx and TS 4xx) or via a cable (TS 220 and TS 230). The actual position values as measured by the machine axis encoders are simultaneously saved by the control and the information is then utilized for further processing.

TT 140 and TT 449 are 3D touch trigger probes, suitable for inspection and tool measurement. The contact of the probe comes in the shape of a disk and is deflected during the process of physical probing. At that particular time, the TT also generates a signal that is then transmitted to the control for further processing.

Next, this signal is generated through an optical-free, wear-free, higher reliability unit. note that the signal transmission to the NC is done over a connecting cable.

The m&h infrared probes are touch trigger probes. When a workpiece surface is approached, a trigger signal is transmitted to the receiver by infrared light, because of the deflection of the stylus. For process-reliable measuring on machine tools it is vital that there is interference-free transmission between the receiver and the probe. Interference caused by ambient light from inside and outside the machining area is avoided by utilizing HDR (High Data Rate) technology.

LP2, LP2DD and LP2H are robust, compact probes for workpiece inspection and tool setting on CNC lathes. Optical transmission, which requires OMP40M, RMP40M, OMP60M or an RMP60M, is ideal for field retrofitting and optional fitting. These units are functionally equivalent to one another yet provide different solutions as required by different machine sizes.

The LP2 has a small body suitable for gauging workpieces in restricted access areas. The LP2H is especially suitable for heavy-duty applications where unexpected triggers are generated by machine vibration or heavy stylus arrangements. In grinding machines and other applications with dust-filled coolant, the LP2DD forms an ideal solution with revised diaphragm assembly.
