This VXS unit, VITA 41.x - VMEbus switched serial, represents an extension of VME products and boosts the unfailing VME technology. It is reverse compatible with VME/VME64x and uses a new 6.4Gbps high-speed connector transversely on the PO/JO section of VME64x backplane. This new connector permits the use of switched fabric signals meant for higher bandwidth and dependability.

It is compliant with the newest VITA standards, has one or two VITA 41.x switch slots and up to 18 VITA 41.x payload slots. Each switch slot route allows one standard 4x link (8 differential pairs) to each payload slot. It has switched serial traffic over PO of V ME64x backplane.

Its high-speed multi-gig RT-2 connectors for up to 6.4Gbps data rate are used in the switch slots (P2-P5) and in the payload slots (PO) compatible with VME64x standard line cards. It has keying modules and alignment mechanisms for all VXS slots according to VITA 41 specification; system management IPMB bus per VITA 38. It supports rear transition modules in the payload slots according to VITA 41.11 specification.

VXS technology is a product that comes from the VME family. It is an ANSI standard that combines parallel VMEbus with enhancements to support switched serial fabrics including PCI Express, RapidIO, StarFabric and InfiniBand over a new high speed P0 connector.

It uses a 6.4Gbps high-speed connector, that enables the use of switched fabric signals for higher bandwidth. The system is made according to the latest VITA standards, and the unit features extremely low latency with high performance, that is, it works very well with high data transfer capabilities. The processing power can be scaled to perfectly match anyone's needs. It is mostly used for radar and sonar systems.

There are major new features on this product for a more faster output which include expanded 160-pin P1/J1 and P2/J2 connectors, an optional 95-pin (2 mm hard metric P0/J0 connector) for more user-defined I/O, +3.3V and auxiliary power voltage, plus more +5V power. The VME64x system is downward-compatible, so that it assemblies with 96-pin connectors to DIN 41612 that can still be used.
