The metallic root core features on both sides a concentrically grooved profile and has an integral outer centering ring, additionally provided with a pre-determined breaking point notch.
The PTFE layers are held by mechanical means (clips) for which the body is provided with the relevant groove.
The dimensions - which deviate from the standard - are so adjusted that the inner width between the flange and the inside diameter of the gasket results in the smallest dead-space possible. The root core can be re-used and re-faced with PTFE-clip layers.
The gaskets can be installed in standard flanges with even facings using rigid bolts

The thickness tolerance is +/- 2 mils, so proper thickness selection is critical. The high precision silicone gasket is similar, but has a thickness tolerance of +/- 0.5 mils. The Teflon and fiberglass reinforced Teflon are used in high temperature applications such as phosphoric acid fuel cells.
