Effluent standards for waste water are becoming more and more strict. Some pollutants are in very low concentrations like trace of medicine and hormones. These pollutants are difficult or not at all biological degradable in the bioreactor of the waste water treatment plant. At the same time in some areas water is becoming more and more scares and water reuse is very interesting.DMT has experience with different techniques to meet the strict effluent standards and for the possibility of water reuse. The main techniques are ozonation, UV oxidation, chemical oxidation and chlorination. Each techniques has its advantages and disadvantages related to the circumstances. But UV oxidation is the most reliable, low maintenance and easy to implement.
For this DMT has developed an containerized advanced oxidation unit with medium pressure lamps. The units consist of two containers. The first one contains a pumping skid and the second one contains a UV-Oxidation installation. The water treated in this unit is free from pathogens and COD with COD removal efficiencies up to 80-90%. The effluent can be potential reused as process, swimming or irrigation water. The remaining COD is now degraded and can be biological degraded further.
