SKF has innovated a nitrogen rich stainless steel alloy that has high corrosion resistance and degree of impact toughness, and improved fatigue endurance: the NitroMax stainless steel alloy. This alloy is used in the SKF bearings so that they can withstand very harsh applications, like milling machines and rapid machining centers, that have extreme speeds, contaminated and corrosive surroundings, and thin-film lubrication conditions.
NitroMax also extends bearing operation life in full-film lubrication conditions, and significantly increases operation life in thin-film lubrication conditions. Also, the SKF NitroMax stainless steel alloy has been observed to have very low coefficient of thermal expansion.
