The Marel Crust Freezer freezes the outer bottom layer of the product which is in direct contact with the belt, preparing it for a variety of freezing applications, such as slicing/cutting operations. The Crust Freezer can also be used to prevent belt marks on products prior to entering the main IQF freezers or to increase the capacity of existing IQF Freezers.

Products are placed on a thin Teflon belt and gently fed through the freezing zone. Cooling plates are mounted under the belt, ensuring a fast crust freezing of the products' underside.

The freezing zone is built into a fully welded insulated stainless steel cabinet fitted with a pneumatically hoistable insulated cover for easy cleaning and maintenance. The unit is also fitted with seawater-resistant aluminum freezing plates for efficient heat transfer.

The unit is equipped with fans above the product, which can be optionally operated for better air distribution inside the unit. The belt is continuously cleaned by special scrapers mounted above the belt on its return side at the freezer inlet. The unit is also equipped with a pneumatically controlled quick release system for easy cleaning and maintenance, as well as belt in-line automatic control system.

The Marel Crust Freezer can be used as a stand-alone unit or as an integrated part of a fully automated processing line.
