RLV vapormatic starters are used when there is large inertia or low rating power of the driven machine. They are reliable, with the only moving part being short circuit contactor, are unaffected by damp, dust and corrosive atmospheres and have low mechanical and electrical maintenance costs. They are easily adaptable and give "made to measure" starting conditions to suit different drives. The starting principle uses the resistivity difference between liquid electrolyte and its vapour and passage of initial rotor current causes partial vaporization, resistance and starting torque adjustment. The thermal interchanges progressively decrease the resistance during the run-up to speed.
