Cummins Inc. The 8.9 liter Cummins Westport ISL G, has met emissions standards since 2007. The unit uses Stoichiometric cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (SEGR) spark-ignited combustion to develop a high-performance natural gas engine. The device features idle torque and fuel economy of 30% and 5% versus lean-burn engines. The cooled EGR, in combination with stoichiometric combustion (the theoretical or ideal combustion process in which fuel and oxygen are completely consumed), creates an oxygen-free exhaust, to allow the use of Three-Way Catalyst (TWC) after treatment.

TWCs are effective, simple, passive devices that come packaged as muffler and are maintenance free. The ISL G does not require any active aftertreatment such as DPFs or SCR. ISL G features a rugged and reliable design as it shares major components and parts with Cummins L Series diesels and is built with similar features as that of Cummins diesels.
