Mineral raw materials must be treated and processed in a special way before they can be converted industrially to higher value products. For producing industrial sands with specific properties and grain sizes the raw sand is exploited and treated in multiple processing stages. The sands produced this way, high-quality and corresponding to strict quality requirements, are used e.g. in the glass industry, as well as in the foundry industry for parts and components for the automotive industry and mechanical engineering.

In addition to the Webac Sandmixer, the return sand cooler is a key component of sand preparation. Form sand moisture content and temperature are decisive criteria for the behaviour of sand during forming. Temperature reduction takes place in the return sand cooler. In addition, the moisture content is adjusted to the optimum value for reactivation in the return sand bunkers.

To achieve this, various processes take place in the cooler:

Transport and mixture of the sand
Moistening of the sand
Evaporation of the cooling water
Absorption of the water vapour

Well prepared sand results only if sand, water, bentonite, and other additives are optimally mixed together. Every grain of sand must be surrounded by bentonite.

The advantages of the Webac Sandmixer are:

effective dosing of additives
optimum dosing of water via the wear bottom
addition of the additives (bentonite, coal dust, new sand etc.) by injection of binders into the sand bed
gentle handling of the sand grains through a kneading action

By applying a rubber coating as a lining for the mixer, and through the kneading action of the mixing wheels which are also rubber-coated, an optimum coating of the sand grains with bentonite is achieved. This type of preparation is extremely protective. The plows fixed to the cross-head ensure that the sand is mixed efficiently.

To improve the effectiveness of the mixer, binder injection has been implemented. To begin with, the components to be dosed are automatically weighed according to the chosen recipe, and are loaded into the injector. The binders are blown into the sand bed according to the mix cycle.

The binders are distributed directly and evenly in the sand without any dust creation at all. The bentonite penetrates directly into the moistened sand. After it has been activated by the uptake of water, the bentonite surrounds the individual grains of sand.

New Webac Sandmixer mixers are in principle always supplied with binder injectors. But older mixers too can be fitted with binder injection to improve efficiency.

Continuous mixer / foundry core sand

Reliability, sturdy design and excellent mixing results are the key features of our ball mixers. The spherical mixing chamber has no corners or edges, ensuring thorough mixing of sand. Thanks to Webac's special materials and production methods, the mixing ball halves as well as the mixing blades are particularly robust and durable.

During the mixing process, the sand flows over the blades and upwards along the mixing ball halve, making continuous wave movements. In the process, the sand grains are also spun around. These two movements ensure thorough mixing of the material, resulting in highly homogeneous core sand.

Thanks to the long service life of the machine parts and the shape of the mixing chamber, our machines require only minimum maintenance and cleaning, and offer great reliability in production.

The heart of each sand coating plant is the mixer. It mixes all the raw materials and executes all the process steps determining the quality of the coated sand.

The construction and material of all parts getting into contact with sand are designed to have a long life. The mixer wall in the direct mixing area consists an easy to replace steel lining. In addition, the mixing plows are provided with an armor of wear-resistant material. A powerful motor puts the crosshead with the plows and mulling wheels into motion. Within a very short period of time, the resin is mixed uniformly with the sand. The heat transferred from the sand to the resin makes the resin melt to form a uniform resin coat around each sand grain. After adding ol hexamethylene-tetramine and cooling water, cooling air is blown from the lower side of the mixer through the sand, thus cooling the sand and hardening the resin coats onto the sand grains.
