ECS separator / eddy current / for non-ferrous metals
GOUDSMIT Magnetic Eddy current non-ferrous separators have a conveyor belt system with a rapidly rotating magnet rotor containing magnetic poles that generate an induction field. The rotation speed results in a rapidly fluctuating magnetic field. This produces a magnetic eddy current in electrically conductive metal particles that contain no iron (non-ferrous metals). This interplay of forces results in the ejection of the non-ferrous part from the product flow. Watch the animated film that provides a clear understanding of the working principle and the promotional film eddy current separator that explains more about the application.

In this manner it is possible to separate a great many non-ferrous metals (and non-ferrous alloys), including aluminium, copper and brass. It is much more difficult to separate stainless steel, lead and copper wire; that can be achieved more effectively with the I-Sens separator.

The number of magnetic poles and the rotational speed have considerable impact on the separation effectiveness. Goudsmit makes magnetic rotors with 12, 22, 22-HI and 38-HI magnetic poles. The 12-pole rotors are utilized in coarse fractions from 80 mm. The 22-pole magnetic rotors are utilized for medium fractions, the 22-HI for fine or medium fractions and the 38-HI for extremely fine fractions. The rotational speed plays a big role in this. In fine fractions the machines can run at 4000 rpm and effectively separate small non-ferrous metal particles from around 0.5 mm.
