These transmitter power supplies are utilized in hazardous areas to transfer signals between 4 and 20 mA from standard or SMART transmitters and to supply them with power. The transmitter power supplies deliver an isolated signal which is proportional to a measured value, such as pressure, temperature or flow from hazardous to safe areas.

Via the same conductors in 2-wire transmitters, the power supply and signal are transferred, only allowing 4 to 20 mA signals. The SMART transmitter power supplies repeat the transmitter current as well as a digital signal. This is modulated onto the 4 to 20 mA signal.
