This Photovoltaic Reference PV Cell was designed by Konica Minolta in collaboration with the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology of Japan (AIST). It uses highly advanced optical filter technology in order to provide incredibly precise measurements. This helps solar simulators adjust the intensity that is utilized for evaluating solar cells, such as tandem cells.
Each PV cell has a single, stable solar cell that is made of silicon. These cells come with specially crafted glass filters that are covered with glass plates in unique frames. These devices use the AIST traceability system as a secondary reference when properly calibrated. They meet Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) C 8904-2:2011 for Photovoltaic Devices. They also meet the Requirements for Reference Solar Devices or Part 2 of this code as well.
