Open the level gauge at the tank before you assemble it. Check the threaded parts and inside the unit to ensure they are clean and for visible contaminants that need to be removed in order for the unit to function at its best. Use compressed air if it is available for effective and efficient cleaning. Use an appropriate wrench to screw the plug cock. Use PTFE or hempen tape to fix the accuracy of sealing on threading. Use this appropriately as overuse could cause damage to the gauge.
