Hex nuts have a design that is highly versatile and commonly used. The finished - hex nuts are mostly used along with bolts for locking Jam Nuts available against the finished surfaces. Heavy - hex nuts have more thickness across flats compared to finished hex - nuts. They form the strongest Hex nuts as they can be used for thread engagement for a longer time period. They also are resistant towards widening and stretching. The standard Hex nuts are usually double chamfered and can also be available with washer face and single chamfer. A jam nut is used along with Hex nuts in those applications in which the lateral motion, wedge kind loads and vibration can make the Hex nut loosened. The Jam nut helps in maintaining joint integrity. Hex nut has the capability for providing tension to bolt but Jam nut provides secondary load to Hex nut. Both these nuts can really make the bolt to get tightened well in the machines and applications that are highly critical.
