Air spring - Hour Glass™
The Metalastik Hourglass Bearer Springs are used successfully worldwide in numerous service applications, such as suspensions for LRV, locomotives, freight wagon and metro. In order to give an idealised interface between rail vehicle bodies and bogies, the Hourglass Bearer Springs have been designed and developed to enable all of the relative displacements that are needed by secondary suspensions while retaining the advantages of rubber springing. These advantages include reduced maintenance costs, a long service life, enhanced ride characteristics and simplicity.The Metalastik Hourglass Bearer Springs provide rail vehicle designers with a high load capacity spring which offers complete flexibility, including vertical frequencies of 1.8 to 2.5 Hz. The main characteristic of the spring is its progressive load/displacement which enables quasi-constant periodicity while minimizing the change in vehicle body height from tare to laden height. It is also able to accommodate large conical, torsional and horizontal displacements.
