Abrasive blasting medium

The Blast Media and Abrasives from Wheelabraotor plus are offered in various types to adapt to various customer application needs. Selecting the ideal blast media is difficult because of the number of applications that can be done and the specifications of each one. Wheelabrator guides all its customers in choosing the proper blast media to guarantee the desired surface finish is attained. The blast media adheres with many specific product standards required for the aerospace, automotive and military sectors.

They are offered in different types including metallic, plastic, glass bead, fused alumina and ceramic media types.

Vibratory finishing medium

The vibratory finishing media from Wheelabrator can be acquired in different material composition, sizes, and hsapes. These vibratory media is essential in attaining the proper results. It is beneficial to know which media is ideal for each type of application. For example, ceramic media can be used for different processes from heavy grinding to fine polishing.

The plastic media, on the other hand, is generally used for light surface finishing and non-ferrous materials like die castings. Media shape is also important in the application as different shaped media made in the same materials and size will produce different results.

Steel, iron, aluminium and brass are formed into pellets or cut wire for cleaning, derusting / descaling and peening applications.

Guyson Saftimetal is a high quality, chilled hematite cast iron abrasive with excellent performance characteristics. Throughout its use, the grit remains sharp edged and will produce a clean and bright surface finish.

Guyson Turbogrit is heat-treated carbon steel grit, produced by crushing oversized shot pellets. When new, this product is angular but during use, the sharp edges will become round.

Guyson Turbobead is heat-treated carbon steel bead with a uniform Martensitic structure. This provides excellent resilience and resistance to fatigue. The rounded shape remains during use and the shot multiplies its effectiveness during blasting due to the ricochet effect.

Guyson Flexgrain is a specially produced soft iron bead with exceptional cleaning properties. The rounded shape remains during use and the shot multiplies its effectiveness during blasting due to the ricochet effect.

Guyson Flexgrit is a specially produced soft iron bead with exceptional cleaning properties. The rounded shape appears more obvious during use as the media becomes conditioned and the shot multiplies its effectiveness during blasting due to the ricochet effect.

Guyson Turbonox is austenitic (chromium and nickel) stainless steel shot produced by water atomisation of molten steel, with subsequent sieving and thermal/ mechanical treatment.

Both thermoset and thermoplastic products can be used for a wide range of cleaning, deburring /deflashing and paint stripping applications.

Guyson Flashgrit is a specially produced soft acrylic thermoplastic blast media, often specified for military and aerospace dry stripping i.e. paint removal applications.

Guyson Guyblast is a urea based thermoset resin granulated to produce jagged angular shapes that clean with a unique chipping and shearing action. Without the aggression of mineral or metallic media, this product is ideal for cleaning more delicate products or removing surface residue and coatings whilst leaving the substrate undamaged.

Guyson Guystrip is an amino based thermoset resin, granulated to produce jagged angular shapes that clean with a unique chipping and shearing action. Guystrip is ideal for cleaning more delicate products or removing surface residue and coatings whilst leaving the substrate undamaged.

Guyson Flashgrain is a polycarbonate thermoplastic product, produced from accurately cut extruded strands of polymer. Hard and non-abrasive, this is the toughest of the impact deflashing plastic products and it retains its cylindrical shape during blasting.

Guyson Flashbead is a specialised non-abrading polystyrene thermoplastic product, produced for use where other deburring or deflashing products such as Thermoflash and Flashgrain are too large.

Guyson Thermoflash is a polyamide nylon thermoplastic product, produced from accurately cut extruded strands of polymer. Tough and resilient, it gradually rounds during blasting, but retains edges for most of its life.

Abrasive blasting medium ceramic

Ceramic blast media is useful for finishing and peening applications where long bead life is important.

Guyson Zirblast and Zirshot are high quality fused ceramic beads manufactured from crystalline zirconia bonded with amorphous silica. Both products have a very slow breakdown rate and as such are ideal for impact finishing operations involving automated machinery, where consistency of finish is important. Additionally, dust levels generated are considerably lower than with the equivalent glass bead.

Whilst both products are chemically identical, quality checks to roundness, surface defects etc allows Zirshot to be certified to the demanding standards of aerospace shot peening applications. Zirblast is designed for all other impact finishing applications and is available at a more economic price.

Zirshot can be supplied with certification to most aerospace standards should these be required.
