Molybdenum crucible

Formed molybdenum and tungsten crucibles excel in the so-called HEM process (Heat Exchanger Method). They are the perfect vessels for melting and solidifying the single crystal. Our formed crucibles have particularly thin walls combined with excellent creep resistance. The outstanding purity of our material prevents any contamination of the single crystal. Even the most aggressive sapphire melts cannot do any harm to our materials.



We produce large numbers of formed molybdenum and tungsten crucibles which we can supply in all commonly used dimensions. They are successfully used by all the major manufacturers and numerous end customers worldwide. We produce the input material for our crucibles ourselves in our in-house hot rolling mill for refractory metals. This is where we manufacture the world's largest molybdenum and tungsten sheets which will enable us to continue producing very large dimensions in the future.

Tungsten crucible

These crucibles from PLANSEE are used for melting molybdenum and tungsten during sapphire production when the Al203 compound forms a single crystal. The crucibles show their strengths during the Kyropoulos process. Repeated heat to more than 2000 degrees C is applied and then cooled down. This process causes fissures and distortions in other materials but not for PLANSEE products. The Company has years of experience in powder metallurgy so their crucibles are made of particularly high density and purity. Proper filling of the crucibles and controlled temperature distributed during sintering achieves a uniform wall and base thickness - important aspects for achieving high level creep resistance.
