Belonging to the group of positive displacement delivery pumps are the Roots-type pumps. They feature two symmetrical pistons which have an eight feature housed in the pump body. They rotate in opposite directions with no contact between each other or the pump body, and they continuously mesh. Guaranteeing friction free movement, the pistons are driven by a set of gears with synchronized rotation. The Roots-type pumps can be utilized in numerous applications in the field of vacuum. It is better if they are used in combination with a previous series of pumps (such as rotary vane pumps and liquid ring pumps) and they have an incredibly extensive application in the low vacuum field.
