Universal centrifuges are utilized for sedimentation in angle-rotors or swing-out-rotors. Cooled and uncooled universal centrifuges are available, depending on the application. An imbalance switch and brushless drive or induction drive motor are featured in benchtop centrifuges which are both virtually maintenance free. The mixing of sediment can be avoided by the soft-start and soft-stop modes.
