The Makino U6 high precision wire EDM has such robustness and dependability in non-stop working operations that the operator can simply set it and forget it while it does its job, made possible with the key technologies such as High Energy Applied Technology or HEAT and Hyper Cut to assure hours and hours of unhindered manual machining. Some more notable features include little or nil wire breaking, low wire consumption and quick machining times. The Makino U6, which is successor to the popular DUO series and the big brother of the U3 launched the previous year, has been made for extremely productive and precise machining of stamping dies, plastic moulds, or parts whereas the machine's new wire extraction, guide head, and cleaning system reduce the maintenance time for the operator to spend majority of the time in cutting.

The UPV-3 and UPV-5 Ultra-high precision WEDM machines by Makino are made with an oil dielectric system for accurate machining of carbides and other hardened materials put to use in manufacturing of tooling for fine blanking, precision stamping and powdered material forming. These machines can also process complicated cutting and cutting tools inserts made of PCD (Polycrystalline diamond) and these tools will commonly have a PCD cutting surface mounted on a carbide substrate or a tool steel while the oil based dielectric fluid results in a smaller gap between the work piece and wire electrode during the time of electrical discharge as compared to a water based fluid. This improves accurate machining of the smaller slot widths and the narrower corner radii. Featuring Makino's recently developed SPG II machining circuit, the wire EDM machines can hence deliver improvements in perfect surface finish and finish machining efficiency to a great extent.
